Money Sent to Your Mobile Number Goes to the Wrong Bank? Here’s the Fix
Have you ever noticed this problem?
Someone sends you money using your mobile number via UPI…
but the money gets credited to a bank account you don’t even want to use 😟
This happens to thousands of UPI users every day — and today, I’ll explain the exact solution.
Why This UPI Problem Happens
Most people have multiple bank accounts linked to the same mobile number, such as:
- SBI Bank
- Airtel Payments Bank
- Rural / Cooperative Bank
- Any other private bank
When someone sends money to your mobile number, UPI decides which bank account will receive the money — based on primary/default account settings.
Setting a primary account in only one or two UPI apps is NOT enough.
Real Story: Why I Wrote This Post
Whenever someone sends money to his mobile number, the amount gets credited to his SBI account.
But he has an active loan running in SBI — so the moment money comes in, it gets automatically deducted.
He wants all UPI payments to go to his Airtel Payments Bank account instead.
Just like him, many people have different reasons:
- Loan auto-deduction
- Salary or savings separation
- Using one bank only for UPI
- Avoiding unused accounts
The Only Working Solution
👉 in ALL UPI APPS you use.
This includes:
- Google Pay
- PhonePe
- Paytm
- BHIM
- Any other UPI app installed on your phone
Why This Step Is Very Important
If you skip even one UPI app, then:
- That app may still have your old bank as primary
- UPI may route payments to the old account
- Your money may still go to SBI or another unwanted bank
Example
If you want money to come only to Airtel Payments Bank:
- Open Google Pay → Set Airtel Bank as primary
- Open PhonePe → Set Airtel Bank as primary
- Open Paytm → Set Airtel Bank as primary
- Repeat for any other UPI app
After this, whenever someone sends money to your mobile number, it will be credited to your selected account.
Final Words
This is the safest and most practical way to control where your UPI money is received.
If you’re facing issues like loan deductions, wrong bank credits, or confusion in tracking payments — follow this method exactly.
